i have the new reverse switch in.. what was c ut out ( by PO) was the harness that goes to it. i gound 4 loose cut wires in the harness directly where the harness for the reverse switch goes. it had 2 black wires, a red, and a purple. is this normal? bad wireing? i just dont know what goes to what.......
please help!
sorry, i have a T-19. it screws into the top. when you pop it into reverse it triggers the switch to turn on reverse lights. the power and ground wires com off that switch. my harness for the switch was cut out by PO. there is 4 wires haning out of my MAIN harness and i believe thats where the reverse switch wires in.
On a manual tranny, the purple wire goes to the reverse switch. Does one of the other wires have a purple stripe? If so it would be the other wire for the reverse switch if I remember right. If your truck is a 4X4, the other two wires could be for the 4x4 indicator light in the dash.
see i did have to rewire the 4x4 and thats all done. i have two grounds which could just be cut maybe should be wired together? i know one is purple and one i believe is red
Hey coal I will look at my truck when I hit home I can tell you exactly what goes where I have to pull what's left of the wiring harness from engine compartment back
Purple wire (with orange stripe) feeds power to the reverse switch. Black wire with pink stripe feeds power from the switch to the backup lamps.
4x4 indicator light would be a light blue wire running from the indicator lamp in the cab down to the switch on the transfer case.
If the red wire has a light blue tracer, it's part of the vehicle starting system - possibly a wire that's unused with the manual transmission as it would go to the neutral safety switch on an automatic transmission.
By the way I have a complete wiring harness for a 86 standard cab I only cut speaker wires and a plug off but I still have the plug and right now it's from dash to headlights including the fuse box not selling but might barter just pm me (stock stereo wires are cut and plugs gone
on gas trucks, i know that 2 of the wires were connected to each other and the other 2 went to the switch. it would appear that the 2 that are connected would be for a NSS on an automatic transmission.
beware that if you accidentally cross the wrong wires there, the starter will engage when the key is turned on (experience), so be sure to test its operation before its all buttoned up.
Thanks man, im trying to make her my daily driver, its getting cold here in upstate NY aand i commute to college 30miles a day. however im willing to give up the 34mpg jetta to drive a badass monster getting 18mpg.
