My understanding is that the 289 was never used in the 1968 Mercury Cougar, they got the 302 from the very beginning of the model year.

Need a donor car for my 59 f100 4x4. All original except 302 motor
Can with a 292, a 302 was put in before I got it. The brakes are so trashed and I’m looking to put some better components on it to be safer on the road. Still has closed knuckle axles.
What would be be a good donor car for a full brake system and power steering?
