Tuner

What is the best tuner for a 2004, 6.0L cc lb 4x4. It has the bullet proof oil cooler upgrade and EGR updated. Going with gears for towing and need better MPG and power. It terrible unloaded at about 10 to 12. Would like a tuner, custom for towing and unloaded power and MGP. I'm asking alot but had to ask.

Matt at Gearheads using a SCT tuner

Wicked power raise, not a lot of smoke

Get a tuner for the power, don't focus on MPG changes, you might be disappointed.

I hate the marketing campaign that tuner companies have used to bolster that angle.

Tylus thank you. Have you used this tuner? I know matt is great with the 7.3 but didn't know he also dose the 6.0L God bless. Tex I know about the MPG its just I average only 10 to 13 on a good day. I think maybe they reflashed mine at thte dealer and it doesn't like the new flash. Do you have the 4.30 gears in your King Ranch, and how do you like them?

Yes, I am running Matt's Street Race Lite (SRL) with my 6.0 right now

I'm getting a solid 12 mpg. 100% city driving, A/C on, 35" tires with lift kit, and unfortunately alot of idling since wife refuses to sit with windows down and motor off

I also recommend Matt's tunes from Gearhead. I've been running his SRL on my 07 for several weeks now. I absolutely love it. Great power, smooth shifts, and very little smoke.

Just wanted to make sure. There has been an increase in posting as of late with regard to tuners and getting them for MPG improvement as the sole motivating reason.

Yes I have 4.30 gears in my KR. Works great in stop and go traffic, with or without a load in or behind it. Just not the best thing to have at interstate speeds over 65 if you are trying to max MPG.

Tex25025.
What size tires r u running. I'm thinking about changing my gears. I'm running 37x13.5x18 an I would like it to pull better. If it gets better MPG that would just b a bonus to me. I have a SCT livewire an soon to get Matt's tunes.

Don't know much (still figuring this thing out) but as far as the tuner....

I've read a few posts that said you need an SCT and custom tunes to not throw a code for an EGR delete.... SCT (yes)-- custom tunes (no) the SCT has a turn EgR off function in it's standard tunes.

I fully agree custom tunes are the way to go and it probably wasn't meant that way but I'd hate to see someone not buy a tuner because they didn't have the custom tunes.... I'll have mine soon .

I have a bullydog right now with the outlook monitor to go with it an a EGT probe. I can tell u from tryin both of them. The bullydog on performance setting give u more power than the SCT on performance setting. But with the SCT my EGT temps were about 100 to 150 degrees cooler than with the bullydog. Only reason I have the bullydog is b/c it came with the truck when I bought it. Only reason I don't have custom tunes for my SCT yet b/c after about 2800$ worth of parts.
I'M BROKE !!!!!

Any one run IDP tunes? I have heard good things about them and they have the engine brake feature. I frequently tow and heavy and would love this. Are there any other options out there for this? Sorry to steal this from the OP

I don't have either Matt's or Erie's tunes. But I have only read good things about them both. I have heard that Erie is a lil higher on his prices than Matt.

SCT has 5 tuners that will work for us

Xcal 2 - couple of years old, square shape. Basic programmer that holds 3 custom tunes and not alot of menu options can be changed

Xcal 3 - Part #3000 - upgraded version of Xcal2. Not much different really

Xcal 3 SF3 - Part #3015 - Smart version of the Xcal3. Much more menu options, comes with 3 canned tunes, can hold 3 custom as well

Livewire - A Xcal 3 SF3 with touchscreen.

TSX - A wireless Livewire

Your basic Xcal 2/3 will not let you turn off the EGR. You'll need. Custom tunes for that

The Xcal 3 SF3 let's you turn off the EGR in the menu options

Hope that helps

Guys this all helps. Are any of you towing say 16K with a tuner. He has a heavy toy hauler, about 40 feet that when he loads it with rhino and razar and a couple of small quards its heavy. I know some tuners make sure the EGT's say in tack under that heavy of a load. Also he's puting in 4.56 gears Monday. Do you think these are to low. He has a 6 inch lift and 35 tires. What RMP's I wonder will that put him at 60 or 65 mph? I asked above about the 4.30's in the King Ranch and thats why. Chet
