I think I found some of the DEI units you were talking about here:
DEI Avital - Hornet - Valet - Python - Viper Remote Car Starters

No plug and play harnesses that I can find. I think they make it difficult on purpose so that it's hard to mess with it once it's installed. I started reading through the installation instructions, but about halfway through I realized my brain had glazed over and I was daydreaming about riding a pony!

Yea, I know what you mean. I only lasted about 10min into my reading when I decided "screw this". I was also daydreaming....but not about ponies...

Curious if they make them for stick shifts?

I saw a optional module in there somewhere for manual trans vehicles.

The unit I'm looking into getting is the Python 5303p 2 way remote start and will be joined with the DSM250 SmartStart GPS module. So does anyone know if this unit will work. The only reason I'm really leaning toward this is because it's supposed to be one of the nicer units, I can use it on my iPhone, and I can get everything brand new for $240 to my door. The SmartStart module alone retails for more than that so it's too big of a steal to pass up if it will work.

Also, about the manual trans, that was my other stipulation. I'm working on trying to find someone to buy my truck right now and if I do sell it I'm getting a manual BMW Z4. So I did my research and found out that you CAN put them on a manual, you just have to make sure you don't try and use it unless you were the last person to drive the vehicle and KNOW you didn't park it in gear...otherwise you got a runaway car if it starts. But that was the only way I was going to buy a remote start is if it could be put on a manual, which I found out it could. I love Toyota's "Clutch Start Cancel" feature. My friend had a 4Runner with it and you could press the button and start it without pressing the clutch if the car was in gear. I think one of the main reasons behind the feature was for remote starts. I don't see why it hasn't caught on to other manufacturers...

But from the research I've done, most of the guys that have done this didn't get a special module, they just didn't a little something different with the wiring. And like I said, be 110% POSITIVE the vehicle is in neutral before you try and start it.

Hey everyone, I have 2 questions that you may know something about. First is the tach sensor. The unit I am looking at has "virtual tach" which means that the unit looks for voltage spikes from the alternator to tell when the vehicle is running and whether or not to retry. Problem is, these trucks don't get a signal from the alternator for about a minute and a half. However, the DEI 454T supposedly hooks to the output wire on the alternator and then to the tach sensing wire on the unit and gets its signal that way. Would this work or will I still have the same problem?

2nd questions is the more controversial one. WAIT TO START LIGHT! I've read several threads about this and some people say there is no wire going to the light and that it's on a circuit and then some say there is a wire but you can't tap into it because it will feed back into the circuit and ruin the entire glow plug system, which makes perfect sense. However, if the 2nd part is true, I don't see why you couldn't wire in a diode so that the signal cannot feed back into the glow plug circuit. I mean hooking up a timer isn't that big of a deal at all, but I just thought it would be niftier to be able to have it try and start as soon as the light goes off. But that's just me...
