I'm having a hard time with start up. It sounds like its only hitting on a few cylinders for a while and then grabs a few more. I know OLD diesel do this, but my body has the same truck and his never does unless its like zero degree's out.
Now my truck is a 99 and has been a ground up resto.. I've got and Jasper Long Block, the Banks Powerpack Kit on it, a 6" lift and 37's.
I'm wondering if maybe my PCM is wrong.. Close but wrong. The truck drives good other then I think I have a wastegate code.. I can hit about 24 pounds for boost if I"m "into it"
What do you guys think? Glowplug problem? (i have remote start on a 20 sec deleay, and it does the same thing if I key it up)
Oh ya.. I can let the truck cool all the way down after getting somewhere and about 5 hours later start it up and its fine... But if I let it sit for a few days, or even over night.. I have my problem.
does it smoke white or blue or even at all when cranking and shortly after startup? sounds to me like a glow plug problem, particularly the glow plug relay.
I second the glow plug relay. Check ALL your electrical connections for cleanliness from batteries thru the GPR. The GP's pull about 8-10amps/sec or about 200 in 20 sec. Also, how good are your batteries? Are they matched(Brand, age)?
Ya, I'll have to check out the things that yoiu told me. I do have two diff batt in it right now. They are both new within the last year. I dno't really see why they would be a prob though. This morning when I went and started up my truck it started fine, but its about 60 out here right now.
Another bit of info would be.. If I'm sitting in my truck when and start it w/ the key, and it does its stumble thing, if I give it a little bit of gas for a sec it normally levels it self off and runs fine after that.
And yes, it gives a small puff of smoke on start up (mix of white and black), but nothing unusual for a diesel w/ a performace kit on it from what i'm told.
