I goofed!
First of I want to say thanks to you guys and all your help the truck is running and going down the road. I had to get the driveshaft resleeved and straightened. It was more then .300 out of round. Quite a bit considering.
Anyway, then I noticed the speedo was not reading true. I bought a set of 5 new gears ranging from 16-20 teeth in one tooth increments. I started with the 18 tooth gear and it was still reading slow. I found out the cable going into the instrument cluster was loose so I pushed it all the way on until the tab clicked. I put the 20 tooth gear on. I really had to press down on it to get the retaining clip to go on. Drove it and noticed the speedo wasn't working. I bet you guys can see where this is going... I took the cable out of the transmission and the gear had come off inside. Now I have to drain it again and see if I can find the gear and retaining clip. *sigh*
So close, yet so far.
Hang in there. One of these days it'll be working right and all will be well. Or, at least you'll have this problem whipped and can see the next one.
