Ok so I have been searching all over the forum for information on headlight conversions on these trucks. I work at night, so the majority of my driving takes place after dark. It is a necessity that I get some more light out of these headlights.
I have decided not to change my headlights to projection headlights, but I do want to put a 35W HID kit in them. I'll probably use a 6000k bulb so that it will have a slight blue tint, but be mostly white light.
Ok, with that being said I have already searched the forum and read all the pros and cons to HIDs, so there is no need to tell me that I shouldn't do it. I have made my mind up. The positives for the HIDs seem to outweight the negatives.
I'm going to go with a DDM Tuning kit, but there website doesn't specifically say what I'll need for my truck. What is the harness/error eliminator/adapter cables/bulb type combination that i'll need.
All the post I have found have some great info on HIDs, but none of them seem to say what is needed from DDM to make the lights work. Sorry for the long winded post, just throwing it all out there.
You don't need any adapters if your just doing the main headlights. I got a 55W Hi/Lo kit 9008. Mine came with a relay... It works great thus far. Yours may be 9007's though if you are 03 or older. I think the Hi/Lo kit is the best bang for your buck. If there is no option for a relay then it comes with it, if there is make sure you add that in. The support for DDM is terrible. It takes forever to get them to respond back, but once they do and finally get you what is needed to send the kit back if you have any issues (I ordered the wrong Fog's for mine) its as simple as mailing them yours back, and getting the new ones. I had to send my fog light ballast back as it got water damaged partially my fault. I had to pay to ship it to them, they paid to ship the replacement out. The problem is it came by mail, and it came from CHINA!!! I live in the USA! It took 3 weeks to get here. Once it did get here, it worked great though. The brackets are okay, but you'll need to get some zip ties because the bending brackets do not really secure the HID ballast as well as I'd of hoped especially when mounting the fog light ballast. I used zip ties and the big wide roll of black tape to secure them to prevent water from getting to them again... At any rate the lights have been working so far. Got both, and I went with the 55W for the top head lights and 35w for fogs. 8000k. Unfortunately the difference in wattage makes the fogs look different colored then the headlights, especially when on camera!
Since you obviously have your mind set on getting the plug and play HIDs, I will not state the facts on how the PnP system is actually worse. And I do not have any idea what your system would need.
Just do me and everyone who will be driving past you a favor. Adjust your headlights afterwards. That $#!& is blinding.
A nice retrofit HID kit would be an option, but they are just too high. I'm not wanting to get 55w bulbs, just 35w ones and I have seen them on plenty of F150s and they don't seem like they are blindingly bright to me.
Chris what you are saying is that if I get a 35W hi/lo kit that are 9007s then it will work with my 05 truck and it will come with the relays? What will I need to buy for the fogs?
DDM is around the corner from me, and yes... they have terrible customer service (and you can't order on the phone). Often, they are super busy from will call pickups and treat you like crap when at the counter. I use them every now and then for WORST CASE scenarios where I myself have run out of stock in something. Sadly, they won't sell JUST a ballast, you have to buy a kit or have one replaced under warranty.
NOW... they are the cheaper store. Good news for all of us!
BUT... they don't sell true LOW and HIGH beam HID. Their HID bulbs if stated bi-xenon come with one ballast and are either mechanical (move in and out to achieve high beam), or have a halogen high beam (which is worthless).
If you want great output, you need to get the 9008 in a dual-xenon bulb that comes with a wire harness and 4 ballasts. And then, you can run your low beams while your high beams are on, and get the best overall output... and no lag time (dark period) when going to high beams.

Mine work perfect. Those true dual bulbs kits are pretty pricey... I have a total of 90 bucks for my stuff, and as long as its worked thus far I've already gotten my money's worth.
I will probably end up going with the DDM kit. I don't want to spend a bunch of extra money on an expensive kit if the DDM will do the same thing. Thanks for all of the info.
I've had my 35W DDM's in my F350 on all 4 for almost 2yrs now. It uses the same bulbs as my F150. Only issue I've had is one or the other goes out once in a blue moon and I need to reseat the connectors. The connectors appear to be somewhat low quality. The only other minor complaint is the headlights tend to jiggle around while driving on bumpy pavement since they retract inwards or outwards for high beam operation, and the fit is a bit loose.
No issues with ever being flashed by oncoming traffic.
No additional harnesses/eliminators/relays needed.
Would I do it again? Sure... For the price, you can't go wrong. I still have some Silverstars in the F150 and they cost not much less. They're dim in comparison to the DDM's
Sorry to bring this thread back, but I have been doing some more research and to me, this kit looks just the same as what I would get from DDM. Am I right?
