After all this snow we got in Mass this past weekend, I stored my truck in the garage for the winter. I was just wondering if I should put anything in the fuel, or something to the engine, seeing that it will sit all winter? Or should I just leave it alone? Any thought's I would appreciate it. Thanks
We got about 2 feet of snow here. not as many power outages as in ct. I just got power back today but a lot of trees down. feel bad for the people who won't get power back for a few more days. A lot of bad storms around here lately. Thanks
I'd put a trickle charger on the batteries before I worried about anti-gel. If the truck is going to be sitting and you have no plans to drive it at all during the winter the anti-gel is a waste. The only other thing that comes to mind about long term storage & the 6.0L the vanes on the exhaust side of the turbo may stick/rust since the truck isn't getting driven. At which point you may have to think about driving it once a month to keep everything from rusting up, then you'd need to think about anti-gel in the fuel....strange how everything goes back to fuel.
We don't normally get heavy snow down here, now ice & twisters....that's another story. It's been 10-12 years ago now, but we had an ice storm that coated everything with a 1/2" to 3/4" of ice. Needless the lines came down, there were places in Oklahoma that were without power for weeks. We were lucky, only 8 hrs...but it was still miserable.
If it were mine Id be starting it Occ.... Trickle chargers and stuff are great
But the issue I see is some of the seals and stuff dry out need to splash a little oil around to keep em from drying out
I agree with the seals dry rotting as I have had this happen with lots of equipment in the past. My truck usually sits every other year for 12-18 months. Before I put it up for storage I fill the tank, put fuel stabalizer and anti gel in it and disconnect the batteries. I usally have someone start it about once every two weeks or so and let it high idle for about 15 minutes or so.
