Anyone out there got a reccomendation for a code reader for OBD 1. I have found one at my favorite discounter for 25.00. Seems to be a good deal. I can get them with my multi meter though it is more work. Worth it?
that;s about right. Although I would use a test light in place of the mulitmeter, easier to read. You see falsh. flash. flash. instead of sweep, sweep, sweep. AZ sells those readers for about 30 bucks. So you be the judge on the price.
I prefer a digital reader that also stores the codes in memory. That way you don't have to worry about counting anything plus it's stored that you can recall with the push of a button. About $50.
You can also watch the check engine light as it will flash the same as with using a light or VOM. Sometimes its nice to sit in the cab and relax with the radio playing and counting flashing lights.
The flashing light bit isn't in my Hanes manual, at least I did not see it. How is this done. I know in my Voyager you like turn the key on off and back in a pattern that they have and then you are good to go.
the check engine light method is by far the easiest and cheapest. Just get yourself a piece of wire, doesn't really matter how long. Pull off the connector and put one end in the output and one in the input. Get in the cab and turn the key. vualllaaaa
In case you don't know what is the input and output, just stick one end of the wire into the lone wire (grey connector) and the other end goes into the top set of connectores (on the big connector) and its the right one. I believe there is only 2 or 3 prongs along the top.
