It would be nice to have a tach in my 5 speed, but NO, Ford only puts them in autos now? what with that?
one of my previous cars had no speedometer, i used the tach and what gear I was in.
I love my tach. My old truck didn't have one. I love guages the, the more the better. I have noticed that automatics will have a tach, but not a manual tranny sometimes. Hmmm...
I put one on my truck, but I really don't use it all that much.
I really pay attention to the one on my motorcycle.
As far as listening to my vehicles, yes. I usually don't turn on the radio until after I've driven a mile or so. After I'm satisfied that all is well, I crank up the tunes.
Now my daughter on the other hand, she couldn't tell you if a bomb exploded in her back seat. She has a really nice sound system.
I usually drive without it but they come in handy when your music is more important than hearig your engine. Although I still don't look at it much unless I'm testing the engine out or something. I usually shift by the vibrations and feel of the petal.
On my car the speedo doesn't work so I use the rpms to determine the speed, got all the points memorized.
My tach IS my speedo!!! I`ve got a Sun tach and here`s how it works. 2000rpm is 55mph-- 2150rpm is 60mph--- 2300rpm is 65mph(that`s where the red needle is set!). Anything above that is a waste of gas. I set it with my GPS. So I definately watch my tach and not my speedo!!!!!!!!!!
I recently installed a lift and larger tires on my f150 and have not recalibrated the speedo. So I have trained myself to ignore the speedo and I too can tell how fast I'm going just by looking at the tach....
I have owned some vehicles with a tach and some without, all with manual trannies. I like having one and I do look at it some while driving, but they aren't absolutely necessary if you know your vehicle.
have never had a tach in anything i own but i always wanted one. more just to have it than anything else. in my 85, no tach and no speedometer and i still knew how fast i was going. i never got a ticket in that truck until i got the speedo almost fixed. wrong gear so it was off. no tach in anything else but i've driven vehicles with tachs and i liked it. the only thing i don't want in any vehicle is a stupid idiot light that tells you when to shift. if you can't tell, you don't need to be driving a standard. i love standard but my 79's an auto and no tach and oversized tires. oh well....
p.s. horses do not eat tack. tack is what, collectively, the saddle, bridle, reins, breastcollar, tie down, etc etc etc is called. i have four horses and an 80 year old 'jumbo' saddle. most comfortable ride i've ever had..........
I put that last option in the poll as a joke. Since I read that statement about "eating tack"....I've been hoping someone would jump on it.... hahaha!!!!
I've had horses most of my life, & have several saddles. I'd love to see a pic of your jumbo saddle. You can PM me @ LadyHunterFisher(No Email Addresses In Posts!) with horsey stuff.
