Hey guys I just wanted to post up info I havent read about or seen yet.
Last year I had the recall done by Ford Dealership to install new grey cps and up until last week no issues. I have gone through a ton of stuff on my truck trying to track down why my truck is now starting to miss at different RPMs as well as the biggie...... extended crank time (5-10 secs when normal is 1-3 secs)
So today I installed my old black cps and all is well.
I was curious how dealership would deal with me because i in fact had a failed recalled part. I flat out told service manager I had a failed part and would like a new one to keep in my glove box. VERY simple request in my book. He told me to put it back in a bring it back and they would have to keep the truck. Umm no thanks I had a simple request and thats not it. Its all about liability and not customer service. This one tiny thing has made me turn my back on buying a new truck.
I know this is a $30 part and totally not worth the hastle but the one time they worked on my truck was for this recall. My black cps would last around 4-5 years while the "new and improved" grey lasted 1 year 8 months.
So long story short I left my messed up GREY cps with dealer and told them to only call me if they had a new one to hand to me.
I haven't played with the newest version, but there have been many threads about the gray recall CPS being a worse than the originals in terms of rough idle, slight miss, failed CCT. Some even reported a drop in mpg's with the gray cps.
Let us know how the newest one does for you. Be sure to compare it to the newest one Ford gave you. I thought Ford had the latest flavor also now.
Ya I read into a bunch of cps threads. I installed internationals dark grey cps and I couldn't tell a noticeable difference. So I now have an original black AND fords light grey in glove box
I will be happy if this part lasts longer than 1.5 years and proves itself reliable.
