I was talking with my local IH service manager yesterday and he brought out 3 differant CPS for our trucks he's a good guy in my book and he cuts me some good deals also. He said this is the newest cps and he said its suppose to be a good one. Its Black and has a Blue oring on it any one tried it?
is this the same as the original black CPS? i assume i can call IH and have them ship me one as there is no dealer near me? how much did it cost ya??
I am not sure if its the same, but its suppose to the the latest. For better or worst I don't no. One of the service guys there said it seems to be doing good with no ghost codes and smooths the engine out at idle. Using a farm or trucking account the cost was $20.33 as said I have not tried it so I am not for sure its the best one yet.
Someone needs to run the engine tests (rotational velocity, IIRC) on this new puppy and see how it compares with the performance of the original black and the "new" gray units.

I am new to this site as well as the 7.3 powerstroke world. I just bought my 2002 F250 crew cab last week. When i ran the VIN # last week it showed up as needing 2 recalls done. One was the CPS and the other was the speed control I think. My truck has cut off at idle twice but then started back up and ran fine. On 2 other occasions it felt like the truck missed or hesitated while driving. I am hoping the CPS recall will resolve these issues. I wonder if they will use this new black CPS...Should I ask them to. I have already learned alot of interesting things here and I am sure I will be learning alot more..I LOVE MY 7.3 Powerstroke....
I just swapped this cps into my 2002 excursion. It had a grey one in it when I got it....ran great... went to crap and started intermittent stalling. I put a ford grey in. It ran ok from one point of view but had a vibration above 1600 rpm on the highway and had a surging condition just off idle on the ford grey cps they are currently installing. With the 1876736C91 the surging is gone, the vibration seems greatly reduced, buit I don't know if its quite as good as it was when I got it. This rig does have a diablo chip, just installed a mbrp 4 inch exhaust, had an air engineering stage 1 cold air intake when I got it. Next step is to pull the chip and see if its any smoother. If it is... time for DP tuner F6. I don't have a scanner. FWIW the IH dealer I bought it from said this cps has good availability and it was $35 ish over the counter without an account. One thing I have noticed... boost at 1700 rpm highway cruise is higher than it originally was....when I first got it boost ran about 2 psi at 62 mph, now seems to run 4psi.
and if you take this to a ford dealer.... this is an IH part... they won't install it.

They will use the Gray one. But its worth getting it done and see how your truck runs. I plan on doing it just so on carfax etc if i ever decide to sell it , it will show i did them and worst case, i will have a spare cps for the glove box. Some have bad luck and it runs worse, some seem to run just fine. The speed control is a very easy one that will take them 2 minutes to do. Do a search, and you will see teh part numbers needed in some threads where you can honestly do it yoruself.
