I wanna get a little more umph out of my truck. My friend was telling me what he did with his bronco (351W) he dumped the timing a couple degrees, got fatter spark plug wires, gapped the new plugs a little bigger for the bigger wires, and replaced the distributor cap and button. He said this really improved his trucks performance and even gives him better gas mileage.
He was going to help me do this to my truck, (couple months ago) but I'm tired of waiting on him. I understand all the simple tune up stuff and gapping the plugs bigger.
I just wanna know how much to I actually bump the distributor. This scares me because this past summer the distributor spun by itself and right after I fixed it the gear on the bottom sheared the pin right off. My mechanic told me to keep an eye on it because he has only seen that happen twice before and thats because the oil pump locked up.
Any tips? (87' 4.9L, already have new plugs, ICM and coil, newer distributor cap and button, but no new cables yet)
