got a PROBLEM
here"s the problem, i have an 04 f250 crew cab 6.0. i have three gauges on my pillar, egt, boost, and fuel pressure. about 2 weeks ago my fuel pressure would jump up to 100 psi and bounce around then settle back at 64 psi where its pretty much always at. i don't drive my truck everyday so i didn't think anything of it. but this weekend i drove it to the coast and it got a little worse. at idle it was pinned at 100 but when i put it on cruise at 70 or under any kind of load it would sit at 64. well on the way back from the coast it was pretty much pinned on 100 psi unless i really got on it it would drop slightly then jump back up again. with the koeo (key on engine off) my gauge reads a solid 64 psi but as soon as i start it, its back up to 100 psi. any ideas i cant pin it to anything right off hand. all help is appreciated thank you.

Did you hook up your sending unit to another truck and gauge or just hook another gauge to your sending unit?

no i put an external fuel gauge thats mechanical, and i plugged it into the test port where my sending unit is.

If you're getting 100 psi there then you have some kind of a regulator problem or a return line plugged and a damn good pump--LOL.

the funny thing is i dont think i have a return line problem you can look at the fuel gauge and kind of see it shaking a little, and if you put your ear up to the fill neck of the gas tank it sounds like im filling up my tank with a fire hose

what about the fuel inlet check valves on the heads? if one of those were bad they would create high pressure in the fuel filter house right? ill pull the regulator off tomorrow what should i look for in there to be bad?

No they would not. The fuel pressure regulator is what controls fuel pressure. If the inlet check valves on the heads were blocked your truck wouldn't run because it wouldn't be getting fuel and besides that, they are to keep fuel IN the heads not out of the heads. And lets don't mention that fuel doesn't flow all the way through the heads anyway since the heads are plugged at the back creating the safe effect as "blocked inlet valves".

alright man thanks for the prompt answers i will let you know tomorrow when i check it out. one last question, the fuel filter in the secondary housing wouldn't cause high fuel pressure would it? im just trying to rule out all possibility's so when im under the hood i can do it all at one time
