My 78' has electronic ignition. I saw a 90's truck at the recycle yard and wonder if its distributor will swap into mine, or do I need to pull other components as well?
The ignition system in the 90's truck is going to be an entirely different ballgame. Regardless if the distributor were to physically fit or not, the new distributor is going to tie in to the entire EEC system and the wiring would be a mess.
Maybe someone knows of some shortcuts to bypass certain things and make things work stand-alone, but I don't see the point. The Duraspark II system in your '78 is very robust and is an excellent system. Unless something is wrong with what you've got, I don't see the point in "fixing" what isn't broken. If there is something wrong, it's much easier and more straightforward to troubleshoot what you've got, as this is a very easy process and parts are cheap.
