Newbie from Finland
Hello everyone.
I have been reading and getting lot of answers from this forum for sometime, but finally got the time to register.
Last summer I bought a -51 Ford COE from Michigan, and now I have been stripping it for a few weeks.
The plan is to change the driveline completely to a diesel+manual+16inch wheels and make a custom hauler of it.
I would like to know if I can use the F1 doorlock/ window mechanism in the coe F5? Also are the windows+seals etc. the same in the F1 and in the F5 coe?
I found this page about interchange but it does not give the info for the COE.
Body Part Interchange Guide
The parts look the same but are they?
Yoy can buy almost any part for the F1 but not alot to the F5, so if the parts are the same, it would help alot. If someone has the facts, please let me know.
Here is a picture of the COE when it arrived:

Welcome to FTE
The 1948/56 Ford Truck Parts Catalog is available on a CD from hipoparts.com but ... does not have body parts listed for 1948/52's.
The 1944/52 Ford Passenger Car/Truck Body Parts Catalog has been reprinted by faxonautolit.com
Used original come up for sale on ebay from time to time, but are usually expensive because they are difficult to find.
Since I don't have this body parts catalog, I don't know if the COE parts are the same as F1/F8 conventional cabs.
I looked in Dennis Carpenter's (denniscarpenter.com) 1948/56 truck repro parts catalog,. He has the w/strips, but doesn't state if they are the same for COE's.

Welcome FORDCOE,
I am reasonably sure many of the parts are the same, but things like the door seals for instance dont fit because the COEs door shape is different.
Its a question i would like to know a little more about too.....
Nice looking COE, cant beat that i ran into a wall look LOL John

Good day, and welcome to the forum! Congratulations on your new truck. That looks like a nice one, especially coming from Michigan. I admire and respect people from other countries trying to rebuild any old American vehicle. They're hard enough to do here, I can't even imagine how much more difficult it is to do one from 'across the pond'.
I do have the catalog that Bill referenced. All of your glass, the window channels and seals, regulators, door latches and remotes, handles, etc. are all the same between the conventional cab and the COE. You're in luck there. All of the dash parts will be the same. Mostly what will be different are the doors and floor. Anything with a distinctly different shape will be unique to the cabover. Even the door weatherstripping can be used for much of the door, but you'll have to be a bit creative along the bottom curve.
Hope this helps. Keep us posted on your project. It looks like you've got a great plan. We look forward to following your progress. Let us know if you have any other questions.

Funny that Nightwish is so well known. It is a good band so it should be.
I am not a big fan but I do not have to turn down the volume when they are playing. I think that the new vocalist Anette Olson (Olsen?) is at least as good as was Tarja Turunen.
So anyhow my COE now looks like this, and now its the time to fit in the new engine and tranny before I take the cabin for sandblasting:

Yeah it does look like a racecar now when you think of it. The car is my daily driver in the summertime (not so long in Finland). It`s a -51 Ford business coupe with a slightly modified sbc305+ th700. The car has the older (49-50) grille and it was restored in Sweden years back. I bought it about 6 years ago. 2 years ago I came up with the idea to put some decals on it and I liked the looks so much that I kept them. Jimmy Florian took Fords first ever NASCAR-win with this kind of coupe in Dayton speedway, OHIO:

I am not suppose to be doing anything with the car, but I finally got my rear torsen lock and I thought that I put it in so it`s there when the the spring comes. The rear axle is from 80`s toyota pickup. The axle has the same bolt pattern, slightly narrower thread, a little bit bigger brakes and it is light and wery strong, so that`s why I ended up with toyota 8" rear in case someone might be wondering.
So when I get the locker installed, I can get back to business as usual with the COE
