The truck has 105000 on the clock and I noticed it was leaking some tranny fluid. Not a whole lot just dripping enough to make a fist size spot on the concrete in about a week. Dad was driving it tonight and he said the clutch was slightly slipping which it has NEVER done before, so my theory is that the tranny fluid is getting to the clutch. Where is it leaking and how much $$ is this going to take to fix?
It's coming from the front seal of the transmission. Gonna need to pull it and change the seal and the clutch disc. If you're attmpting to do it yourself, you'll need a heavy duty trasnmission jack and help as the 6 speed's a heavy sumbithc.
Well, I guess my first question would be how did you determine it was transmission fluid?
Assuming it is transmission fluid that is leaking and it is getting on your clutch, at minimum you will need to pull the transmission to replace the seal and you will need to replace the clutch disc. A flywheel resurface is prudent any time you replace the disc, plus you might as well replace your TO bearing while you have it all apart.
Cost? I'd estimate $250 and up, depending on how much you can do.
I think Redford was trying to tell you to make sure it is trans fluid. There are several leaks that will leak in that area and there not be a trans leak. He is just trying to save you some aggravation.
If its coming out of the bellhousing, that is one thing. If its coming around the bellhousing, it may not be a transmission leak. I am not sure about the seal replacement ease or price on a manual....Sorry about that.
