Yeah but the 84 had a lot of parts that were from the 86, which I grew up in....they got all smashed on the right side....

Oh and I think the tach picks up off the alternator. The speedo jumping is probably the gears for the speedo, pull the cable out of the t-case and insect the driven gear(on the cable) and the drive gear you can fell by sticking your finger in the case and making sure te teeth are not chewed. If you luck out and only need the driven gear cool, therive gear isnt a pain to change just a pain to find, and also pull the cable(s) out and lube them.

I wouldnt doubt it would be run off the alternator...it needs a 3G one though....it DOES however have a brand new hand built bumper....it was a dream come true....
