Bringing one back to life

Hey guys,
Looking for some advice/opinions. I have a 1997 F350 460ci 4x4. Thanksgiving day of 2009 I lost all brake pressure due to what I think was a proportioning valve going bad. When I press the pedal I get fluid on the ground beneath the rear axle towards the driver side. So I parked it and well, life took over when Murphy moved in for awhile. I kicked his *** out and its time to bring this hoss back to life.
For awhile I started the truck and let it run for a little bit until the battery started being dead from sitting and wouldn't jump start anymore. Long story short this truck has not been ran for at least a year or so.
I am looking for some tips on things to do to make the transition back to the living a smooth one. Things I thought for sure I needed to do were: get the old gas out, change the oil, swap the plugs, you know basic stuff. Does anyone else have any ideas on anything else I should do? Also, does anyone know the brake thing I am talking about?

Brake fluid on the ground would indicate a broken line, probably at the T fitting on the rear.

aside draining the old gas out, checking all the fluids and doing a tune up I think you're probably G2G. you did check the air filter right? mice like to build nests in there and chew on the filters. look for other chewed wires and things too. as for the brakes just pump them a bit then look for where the fluid is leaking.

Probably the rubber brake line connecting the frame to the axle, unless it's rusty under there.

Pull the plugs and squirt a little MMO into each cylinder before you even consider changing to new plugs.

You might want to pull the distributor and use a drill to prime the oiling system if it has been sitting for a year or more.

I have removed the fuel filter and prefilled the new one with lacquer thinner to try and get the varnish out of the injectors.

MMO? That's a new one to me. Priming the oil system that's a good one thanks for the heads up. As far as the brake thing. It seems as if there is a manifold of some sort. Looks like 3 or 4 brake lines coming together. Once I get it running, do you guys have any thoughts on seafoam? Does it work or waste of money and time. Thanks for the good ideas. --Ken

Marvel Mystery Oil...
It works well for unsticking rings and just might keep the cylinder bores from getting badly scored.

The "manifold" is the brass junction that is the axle end of the rear brake hose.

It has two different brake line threads so you can only install it one way.
It is held to the axle by the rear end's breather bolt.
A breather hose connects to this hollow bolt and is clipped to the top of the drivers side frame rail above the axle bump stop.

(on edit; I see your truck is a '97, and might be different. But this is the 1987-1996 forum)

This is the only thread available to me as my truck has no thread of it own. The "manifold" is in the frame rail not attached to the axle.
