Hey Whittey
Drivers in Denver could take a lesson from them. I was awestruck at first when people would yield their right of way to let a person "cut in" in heavy traffic... usually every 3-4th person whereas in Denver...30th-40th...?

PS... Whittey, PLEASE don't take it out on the rest of us. I'm from Colorado

And just for the record, I will let 1 person in front of me 99.999% of the time, but rarely more. I'm from CT though, where people drive like a cross between Floridians and New Yorkers.

PS my appologies to ALL TEXANS. IT seem I mis-spoke and the culprit AIN"T a Texan. Now I've gone and invited the wrath of all GOOD TEXANS! ...and rightfully so.

sorry, i'm an engineer, apologies if that solution is far too logical.
fwiw, before i asked the 1 question i asked, i did a search and read 20-30 threads. for the most part, the information is scattered and incomplete. also, search finds threads ranging in 90% that have little to do with what i want to know. the s/n ratio is quite low.
Most people, it seems, come to a forum like this looking for answers. Sometimes the answers have been around and rehashed ad nauseum. Once in a great while there is a truely "new" question. In either event the answers depend on the good graces of some individual of individuals to respond. I didn't find any guidelines when I signed in that made responding a requirement. Maybe I missed the "sticky". It just seemed like the fair thing to do - ask what you must, answer what you can.
The number of layers and levels of questions create a need for a answers in both simple and complicated fashion. The respondants in this forum have been providing that service from the beginning. No wonder some grow tired of it. I spent a number of years as a sr. research associate in a trillion dollar industy. Much of our time was wasted wading through inconsequencial information to find the small % that fit "our" needs. Run that through other need specific filters and you ended up with maybe 3% reliable/valuable info. My job was to provide that filtered info to the top. It was tiring, but at least I got paid for it.
A similar task greet users here - especially new ones. Here at FTE there is an ever growing encyclopedia of information that (when it comes to categories of information) has had the pages ripped out, scattered around and pulled back into a pile. A guy can.. 1)Try to wade through it all...yuck! 2)Try to search - using four letter words at a minimum... I struggle with good seach strategies. 3) Throw in the towel and lean on the memories of more long time users and just ask questions/directions....I have 4) do something else. 5) do any combination of the above. I know I felt the frustration of trying to find the answer to specific questions before posting. My tendency (like U.T.G.) is to search extensively before I go to #3 (old habit). Besides, there is a ton of good info scattered & gathered amongst old posts.
I agree - a "sticky" with FAQ's (and search technique suggestions) would probably go a long way towards allieviating the "new" question with the same old answer. I've seen similar "sticky"posts at the top of other forums here at FTE. I know I would probably benefit from some search technique examples. Categorizing the entire forum would be a daunting task. A good summary on those basics -carbs,cams, etc. would probably do wonders. At least it would provide a place to refer such questions.
In the mean time I'll continue to rely on the good graces of those who are willing to respond to my questions in a give and take fashion.

My god man, How many times did you ask about your freaking exhaust system??? ""Can I do this, What if I do this, Has anyone everdone this"""
People come here to get opinions, ""Newbies"" will always be part of that. People WILL NOT use the search function...Thats just the way it is........ If you are afraid someone will not like your opinion keep it to your self......
If you do not want to post your opinions than you are doing us all a big favor...Keep it to yourself...You will not waste bandwidth that way..
Some people hate to be contradicted
If you are AFRAID someone will not agree with your post DO NOT put it up!!!I hate it when people CRY
because someone disagreed with thier post!!! Freaking CRYBABIES.....""Hell, people can't agree on which is more important, torque or horsepower. ""
Thats a no brainer...Torque is ...........

You can count me as one of the fairly new ones on this site. My mother in-law traded me a 89 F150 for an older Lumina sedan I owned.
If not for people like the senior, knowledgable folks that populate this site I would STILL have little to no understanding of this engine its capabilities, or great diagnosis on problems that could have cost me big $$$ getting fixed at a mechanic..
So your efforts have not been in vain, if I am the majority, which I'm sure I am; for every person like me that speaks out on the forum there are many who don't and just benefit silently from your experience.
Anyway, I understand how some of the senior guys who are very versed in the technical side get carried away and sometimes somewhat insulting, the majority of the knowledgable folks are courteous and helpful and enjoy a lively coversation about a subject.
There are a few who feel that there opinion should be the final word and overall can be selectively ignored.
I don't expect to change your minds necessarily, however I am sure it will help to know how much you have assisted me..
Thanks,
Jeff
