Unreal. Just unbelievable. It was the choke wire. I retested the choke just after starting the engine and it was dead. Checked the alternator stator and it showed 7.5 volts. Replaced the wire and all is good. The RebelFord took to the streets for the first time in weeks. And here I am diagnosing this and that. The last time I checked I'd swear the choke was wide open...maybe just from engine heat sitting at idle for so long.
It pays to go back to square one and recheck the basics knowing that they've been eliminated as possible causes.
Well, anyway...I've got a whole new fuel delivery system. And it does start much better. I had an old post asking why it takes 3 tries every time to start my truck. Now I know; because my fuel pump was shot. And the ignition switch falling apart in my hands upon removal also indicates that it too was in dire need of replacement.
As for my own stupidity...see my old post about trying to put my rear window in backwards. The only reason I admit to such stupidity is so others here can learn from my experiences. It's better than beating your head against the wall...
