Question Alternator Quick Help

My amp meter is normally on the M after the GP turn off and it kicks in. This morning on the way to work it it was sitting on the N and every couple of miles it would go to the M for just a litte bit. The brightness of the head light followed the trend so I know its not the gauge/gauge wiring.

Could it be a wiring problem on the charging circuit? Or is it the alternator?

Check the single wire on top of the alternator. Mine came loose just enough that it acted funny. Found it while looking for something else.

If Jeffrey isn't right then its probably the alternator. I've gone thru three of them in eight years.

It was the alternator. When I took the serpantine belt loose, I discovered about 1/8" play in the shaft. Now the bad bearing noise at the front of my engine is gone. I thought it was an idler pulley bearing, turns out to be the more expensive alternator.

On the plus side the amp meter now reads on the 'A' and it starts up easier. Must have been a little low on voltage.
