JL 13TW5 subs

Just wondering how happy you guys are with the bass out of your single 13tw5 sub. I have a 12 f350 on order and am trying to get the stereo lined up. I was planning on doing the SPL2K box with a single 13, JL HD 900/5, 6.5 components, and audiocontrol LC6i. I currently have 2 JL 10" w3/v3's in a downfire box pushed by a 500 watt Rockford. I want to have at least the same if not more bass, so I am wondering if I should move the powerslider window motor and do two 13's. What do you guys think?

I have heard great things and am considering the same setup. InMotionJosh (PSN) and a few others are running that setup (or close to it) if you need more info.

I love JL. I have their 8" W3 in my F150.
If you look strictly at area of one 13" compared to two 10" you're only about 25" square shy with one 13".

10" sub is roughly 78.5" square
13" sub is roughly 132" square

The 13tw5 is the thin line right? The guys at my local shop speak highly of that flat 13".

EDIT: 13.5" sub is roughly 143" square...so really thats only about 15" less area than two 10" subs.

You're after the same components I have (sans 6.5's), they all work great together and sound incredible. If you're anywhere near Pittsburgh and want to check it out, I'd be more than happy to meet you somewhere.

I have a bunch of new rattles, mainly the rear slider, that now need attention because of it..

Thanks guys. 2000silverbullet, I am in South Dakota so I won't be able to take you up on the offer. But, thankyou. I would love to come to Pittsburgh though because I am a huge Steelers fan. Do you feel that the 13 hits pretty hard?

For my needs, it hits extremely hard. You can see the back window flexing and with all the windows closed, the moonroof glass will give the appearance of it bouncing up and down..

I have 2 kicker ten inchers behind my rear seats, I made the enclosure myself to work around the window motor on the back wall of the cab. I also cut away all the carpet and insulation from the back wall of the cab to gain an extra inch of space/depth.

I think you should def try to get the speakers behind the seats, they work great back there but probably makes it so that you will have to make your own enclosure.

My Rockford amp is only 250 watts, I really need to get up to 500 or more but they hit very hard as it is. I also want to amp my mids and highs, project I keep procrastinating about....

Well......I am going with two 13TW5's in a SPL2K box and move the slider motor and push them with a Rockford 1000 watt amp. I am planning on going with 6.5 components pushed by a JL hd 400. Should sound good I think. Any thoughts?

I'm not all that knowledgeable on this stuff but it seems to me that you are getting really good stuff so it should sound great. Better than mine anyway. The other guys here will hopefully give you a thumbs up!

I couldn't even imagine 2 of those subs, that thing is gonna rock!

Post up pics when you do the install.

Are you going off the factory deck? I had assumed so since you mentioned using the LC6i. If you want some added flexibility with the sound, take a look at their LCQ-1, much better unit, brand new too.

Thanks Silver, I ordered this unit. Looks like a great unit. I had planned to go with the 2 JL 13tw-5's but Spl2k (Michael), thought I would be happier with the shallow mount Pioneers in his ported box. He said it would hit harder and I wouldn't be able to tell a difference in quality. I am a little nervous about switching but can't argue with this guys "resume", or the money I am saving over the JL's. He said he also uses the Pioneers in his personal truck. Stay tuned!!!!!!!!! P.S. Did I mention how much money I'm saving? LOL

Saving ~$600 pretty much covers cost of the LCQ-1 and the box!

Well.....it is done after weeks of sorting out my installers screw-ups. All I can say is HOLY ****!!! This thing pounds. The guys at my local shop can't believe how loud and hard the shallow Pioneers hit. It is amazing how this tuned ported box works in this truck! The JL 10's in the last truck were not near as loud as these. I would like to say thanks again to Michael at SPL2K for suggesting the Pioneers over the JL 13.5's and 2000silverbullet for answering some emails I had about fixing my installers problems.
