cap vs MPG
'04 F250 6.0D, full 4 doors, 7 foot bed, FX4.
it has a full fiberglass cap. it won't fit in my garage because the cap is an inch too tall. so I might remove it for the winter.
anyway. getting 11.9MPG average city. 17 highway. If I remove the cap, will it help or hurt gas mileage.

I wouldn't expect any change. Some people say 1/2 MPG difference. But then some say better, and some say worse. When the difference is so small, I don't think they can really be sure that it isn't some other factor. So I say don't expect any difference.

If your cap is taller than your cab, your MPG's might go up some due to the reduced frontal area when you remove it, as well as the (slight) weight reduction. Regardless, it probably won't be a big change either way.

I put a topper on my truck prior to a move across country and I honestly did not notice any difference in MPG. Only time was during a severe headwind in South Dakota where the milage went from 13 to 7. It does make the truck look a lot bigger.
