I've noticed a trend the last couple or three years, but last Wednesday really brought it to light. I live in Northern California and there's loggers, ranchers, construction guys and retirees towing trailers everywhere you look. I finally had enough of my camper shell and listed it on craigslist last Sunday, and sold it on Wednesday. Because I had to go to his town anyway, I delivered it and he and his father in-law helped get it off my truck and on to his wife's truck. I pulled into his driveway and his wife had an '05 Super Duty, his father in law showed up and had an '02 Super Duty, at the DMV parking lot, I saw three or four more Super Dutys, on the way home I had to drive through a road that leads through the golf course and following me were three more Super Dutys. All the way home , it was more of the same, everywhere you looked, nothing but Ford Super Duty trucks of all body styles. Don't get me wrong, there were a few Dodges, but VERY few GM trucks. Judging by our local dealership network, you'd think it would be lop-sided towards Dodge Rams, since both the Ford and GM dealers are older and smaller dealerships, while the Dodge joint is the Taj Mahal of dealerships. All in all, I'd say that 80% of all trucks in this area are Fords and 80% of those are '99 and up Super Dutys. Last year, our company alone bought a dozen brand-new, 2011 Super Dutys, and they bought 31 the year before that! Just how dominant is Ford in your neck of the woods?
in my area (mass) i see a lot of fords as work trucks, followed by gm, but not many dodges though. as far as non work trucks its a good mix, although starting to see alot of the new f150's all over the place
Lots of SD's out here, but as mentioned, I may be more prevelant to noticing them since I've been driving one for 10+ years. I look for signs of what year it is, what motor, etc...
I also wonder, when driving by, whether or not they're signed up here on FTE and also if they have some mod that I haven't seen or heard about yet.
I do the same thing when I'm driving by another dual sport rider... on the lookout for farkles!
Mostly SD's and F150's here where I am too. Farms and such.
Next in line are the Rams. Some of the GM's but way fewer.
Same thing here Scott. The Fords and Dodges outnumber the GMs. Our local GM dealer sells both GMC and Chevy and has had the same trucks sitting on the lot for quite a while now while the Ford and Dodge lots are regularly changing inventory.
Yeah, the most common trucks around here are SD's. Wreckers, ramp trucks, plow trucks, or just construction crew trucks.... SD's seam to be the majority.
Out in MtCarroll, the farmers and construction crews almost universally are driving SDs. Back in town, the wifeys grocery getter is often a half ton Chevy truck (beginners?) but only a few die hard cummins guys.
It used to be all superduty here, back in the 7.3 days. But the 6.0 and 6.4 left the buisness/logger/ construction/ garbage companies down too much, so alot have gone to the DMax and a few with the dodges/cummins. It is ironic how many say they want the Superduty, but cant afford the downtime. Even our ambulances are now chevy chassis cabs.
Here in MI there are mostly Super Duty's in that class, about 80% are Fords. But when you go to the smaller truck, there are a lot of Dodge Ram's around. I would say about 40% dodge and F150's, and the rest are GM's. Mostly Fords for the work trucks though, very few Dodge doing any type of work. Those seems to be big grocery getters and usually a woman is driving it. But I do live in the Detroit area and all the car company's have plants around here.
Superduty trucks almost exclusively for serious workers with bed boxes. A few GM 2500's occasionally. All the Ambulances are Cab chassis or E-350's.
A ton of Rams since they are dirt cheap. But mostly it's Taco/Tundra/Titan country out here in Rice Central. You see the occasional truck like mine, but not too often. Especially the 05+ ones. Too dang expensive.
Domestics like the Silvy and F-150 arent that popular. Usually just military have them. And thats because they brought them out here
I have been seeing more of 99-01 XL's floating around though lately. All jacked up with 10+" of lift and 33" tires. Its a Hawaiian thing I guess
