TMI has direct replacement flat top & dished pistons that get you to a zero deck for a lot less money than what putting 351C pistons will cost. Milling the block first has put you in a bad place. TMI's pistons won't work now and the only way to know if the 351C pistons will work would be to bush a 400 rod and try it.

.25 is 1/4 inch. Maybe .025?

Catalog on the TMI site shows compression heights:

2010 TMeyer Catalogue

TMeyer, Inc. Precision Automotive Machining

Silvolite shows same CH for 351c, 400, note variations in the TMI catalog.

cleveland will work

if going with cleveland piston gonna need to bush 400 rods down for cleveland smaller pistion pins. I just recently did this in my 400 build. I have many photos and info on my build. In my 400 with no decking of block and cleveland pistons install I was at around .050 down the hole. I later cleaned up block and had around .015 machined off block. I'm now around .033 down the whole after final inspection. with heads at 73cc and .033 down the hole and cometic head gskt .051 I'm right at 10.1 compression maybe a little more. Little higher than I wanted but flat tops make compression. In the future the tim meyer dish pistion and zero deck is probably a better way to go with these type of pistons.. Check out my photo's and albums and can see some of the work for this 400 for build. (wyoming 400 4v) is the build.

He must mean he milled the block .025. No way you'd mill it .25 and still have a deck to work with. I went the Cleveland piston route and had the piston pin bores opened up to the 400 pin diameter, but I used a set of older TRW forgings to do it. After all was said and done, the pistons were still too far down the bore. Comp ratio was 9.7 to 1 with open chambered 2V heads (milled .030) Could only run it on 93 premium. Ran great though when done.

The 351C pistons have around a 1.72 comp height. Do not order/buy anything until you find out exactly what your block's deck height is, unless you just like buying parts to resell.

Ok, but hold that thought until you have your deck height number. See prior post....

Make sure that cam will work with the compression ratio you have now before doing anything with it. With the stock comp ratio, Summit's P/N 5200 cam works great in a 400. That roller may not work right in a low compression motor.
