E40D-ZF5

Anybody ever done a auto->manual swap? Working on my '91 and may or may not have E40D replacement/rbuild in my future. Just curious on what level of difficulty the swap is to a ZF5.

If I have a part/donor truck is it just a straight swap?

ya its a straight swap as far as i know. Trans tunnel cover, clutch pedal and hrdwr. Clutch, flywheel etc. Not sure if the trans mount is the same, but a donor would fix that. Only potentially major difference i can forsee would be driveline length.

The swap is very straight forward since you have a donor truck. I did it in my little garage in a weekend and i had never even pulled out a tranny before. The hardest part for me was bleeding the clutch. also make sure the pedal's are for the same style truck.. the firewall changed in 92. Since my donor truck was a 91 and my current truck is a 94 i had to hit the junk yard for some pedals, other than that everything was a straight bolt in.

Bolt in, yes get a donor of the same truck model and wheelbase and it will make it 100x times easier. Take pics of everything on the donor before you pull it apart and as you disassemble it. It is straight forward, here is my swap.....
