I stopped into Ford todayto pick up a flasher so I had working turn signals. I took the opportunity to go inside to pick up a brochure for the 2012 F-150. They weren't in yet, but I did talk to the saleslier for a bit. When I have more time I am go out for a test drive. So, hopefully in the next year or so, after I am a little more confident with the reliability of the Ecoboost engine. My days in an Expedition may very well be numbered.
Well, you're still in the Ford showroom so you are exonerated.
Actually, you are doing what I have been thinking lately.
I've been sneak reading the F-150 Forum here at FTE.
As highly as I respect my XP, and all the time I've had it it, there comes a time when worrying about the next 'problem' becomes an issue.
At at almost 12 years old my XP is still an good vehicle, but those words like 'Eco-Boost' and 'Coyote' (and Warranty) resonate with me.

I really want to go back to a pickup. Its really a pain to hook up my trailer to head to Lowes or HD if I need a load of plywood or other lumber. OK fine, I have car seats in my second row and I find that little 4 foot space behind the second row and the rear door to be totally useless for most of what I need to do. I also do not want another leaky Ford sunroof.
Me too - I love the idea of going from 15 to 21 mpg while picking up another 100 HP with the Eco-Boost. I'm a truck guy who has been driving a 2003 Expy family truckster for over 8 years, and I can't wait to get back into a truck. So I've been lurking over in the F150 Forum for a couple months now reading up on the new EBs.
Problem is that I've perfectly maintained my Expy for over 120K miles, and it still runs like a top. I can't see spending $35K for a truck when my current ride is perfectly reliable and I have (knock on wood) no issues. The Expy that has been solid as a rock, but dang that trailer is a pain to hook up when heading to the landscape yard...
I have been through this many times also. My Expy was supposed to be for the wife - but it had some underlying issues that needed to be resolved and she ended up getting a new car. I always told myself I would probably never own anything but a 4-door pickup again - but my Expy tends to do everything I need it to - plus more. I have probably hauled longer stuff in my Expy than I did in the truck due to the short bed. I also just finished rebuilding a fence in our back yard (210 linear feet) - used my boat trailer to haul everything to the dump and worked out great. I added a camera on mine to assist with trailer hook-up. I honestly would probably get another Expy and just end up buying a small cargo trailer if the boat sells. I would love an Expy with the ecoboost (hint, hint Ford) but it would probably be way out of my price range anyway. I really can not believe how many times we have used the third row seats either and I don't know if my family could ever adjust to going on a road trip again in anything other than the Expy. As I type this (well not Right now) I am driving a 2011 Ram 1500 because my parents took the Expy on a trip to the Keys. Will be a hard decision when it is time to get rid of it. End thought process - Mike.
Hey guys, I'm an x-Xpy owner and I know exactly what you are talking about. My '99 was my first truck; I learned to drive in it and ended up buying it from my parents. It was an outstanding truck. I sold it almost a year ago and bought my '04 diesel 4x4 F-350. Looking back though, I do miss the Expedition. It's just a simple truck without a whole lot to go wrong. I beat the crap out of my Expedition and it always got me back home.
What I like about the Expy is that it was a legitimate truck yet it had an outstanding turning radius and drove like a dream (I often broke the back end loose taking turns while off pavement). I love my diesel, but I must say, I do really miss my 2WD Expedition.
Just to list a few of Betsy's upgrades: 5.4L XLT, Fabtech 1.5" spinldes, Edge Programmer, GoRhino push bar, BFG At's, rear coil replacements, K&N cold air, Gibson ceramic equal-length headers, 2.5" true dual cat back w/Magnaflow x-pipe and dual 24" mufflers.
Guys...relax..it's ok to have both! We have 2 diesel cc4x4's (1 a DRW) and we kept the '98 & '99 expy's! We have 2 teenage girls so we put them into the expy's. Best of both worlds, safe daughters & Me & Monty get to choose wich pick-up we take on our adventures! Momma is driving her 1995 Saturn 378500mi and still going strong! (uses a quart of oil every 1500mi) on the original everything but clutch! Why she likes that thing I will never understand
