Why block the EGR?

Hi,

New to the group, finally got my 1st F150 - 95 XL with the 300/5sp/2.73 combination.

I have been reading all of the threads I can find - great stuff.

There are a number of comments on blocking off the EGR, but I could not find the thread detailing why this is an advantage.

Can someone please provide me the readers digest version - thanks in advance.

Jerry

Why block the EGR?

As far as i can remember, the EGR is used to mix some exhaust gas back into the combustion chambers to cool them down.

Some trucks have a pinging problem, and blocking off the egr seems to fix this, by restricting the amount of pre-burned gasses being introduced back into the cylinder.

Or this is at least how i understand it.Egr Valve Info

Why block the EGR?

the EGR is there for emissions and to keep the combustion temperature down so that NOx gasses are not as abundant.

Obviously, routing exhaust gas into the intake is going to cut back on some power, but the fact is that its a small amount. If your EGR is causing a problem, then blocking it is a good idea. But if its not doin you any harm, there really is no need to block it.

Its not as bad for the enviornment. Ah who am i kidding i don't give a crap about the trees
