As far as i can remember, the EGR is used to mix some exhaust gas back into the combustion chambers to cool them down.
Some trucks have a pinging problem, and blocking off the egr seems to fix this, by restricting the amount of pre-burned gasses being introduced back into the cylinder.
the EGR is there for emissions and to keep the combustion temperature down so that NOx gasses are not as abundant.
Obviously, routing exhaust gas into the intake is going to cut back on some power, but the fact is that its a small amount. If your EGR is causing a problem, then blocking it is a good idea. But if its not doin you any harm, there really is no need to block it.
Its not as bad for the enviornment. Ah who am i kidding i don't give a crap about the trees
