I have a E99 F350 PSD automatic, 4x4 and I wonder what is the largest gooseneck trailer I can tow behind it?
I am looking at buying a trailer to make a long distance move but don't want to buy one that is too large for my truck.Yet I want to make my move in one trip and get everything in the trailer.
Is it a DRW or a SRW? What gears? I don't know how much stuff you have obviously, but I would not think you would overload a gooseneck with household goods, although it is very possible.
Technically speaking you should be rated for around 12,000lbs to 13,000lbs for a GVWR of 20,000.
To answer the "legal" question of how much... Go scale your truck and note the weight distribution between axles. Then find the axle ratings for the truck, plus the GVWR and GCWR. Now for some simple math...
Max pin weight = GVWR-truck weight.
Max trailer weight = GCWR-truck weight.
And if you want to get more technical, make sure the pin weight doesn't put you over your axle ratings (and tires).
What can it haul legally, or what can it haul capably?
Over mountains or just flat land?
I see 1-ton hauling those 55' goosenecks with 4 cars on them all the time. They are legal and they are capable. Are they completely safe? Fact is they usually drive below speed limits.
