Im a real big believer in rustproofing. But only if done right. Can you do it? Yes if you have the tools. Parts stores are now selling the guns and canisters that mate onto the rust proofing guns. The only thing I have not seen is the wand that allows you to feed the product into cavities via drip holes eg., the cavity of a rocker panel. I think everyone should own a rust proofing gun. Nothing wrong with hitting the truck every now and then. To do the job properly you need to remove parts such as scuff plates, door panels etc..
Manufacturers have gone to great lengths in the last decade to improve the corrosion protection. This wasn't always the case if anyone remembers the unlamented Vega - a car that would actually develop rust spots while still on the showroom floor. Ziebart capitalized on this short sightedness and an idustry was born. The competition from foreign manufacturers forced Detroit to change their ways. Done properly, it can't hurt, but are you really gaining anything for the money spent?
I'm in a middle of a test. I bought a 43,000 truckand did get it Ziebarted. In a few years I will buy another new truck and get it Ziebarted. I will see what the difference is.
