I bought a 300 engine complete minus intake/exhaust manifolds and I was wondering what markings there are to tell me what year the engine is. I plan on building it and didn't know if the years made any difference on parts. It is a carbuerated engine. Thanks
If you are going to go through it, all that really matters is that is was a carb'd engine. EFI motors had different heads which are still compatible with a carb'd set up with minor mods.
Casting numbers and a date code can be found on the block. The casting numbers will only tell you the year the revision took place, not when it was actually cast. The date code will tell you when it was assembled. Look for a machined flat with numbers stamped into it in the format in this link. I do not know where that is on a 300, but near the starter or near the oil filter are two favorite spots.
