can someone please tell me why both gauges on my 87 f-150 4x4 dont work right? fill them up and they go to full. they stay there for a long time. then they start to flucuate down to empty and back to full. first thing you know is you are on empty. i am fixing to change my front tank sending unit now as it isnt working right. it will run for awhile and then shut down. switch to rear and it works ok, but the gauge is still the same way. i hope the new sending unit and fuel pump will fix them? thanks a lot

and the gauges do work, because they move from empty to full but only flucuate when gas is being used up. no such thing as 3/4 or 1/2 or 1/4 i am just curious as to why both tanks do the same thing? runs me batty, but im not too smart anyhow. lol thanks

I'd honestly check the pigtail on the fuel sending unit...Because a loose, flopping one that isn't clipped on tight will cause flucuations...I know it did on my truck..Clean the contacts, and use Dielectric grease on them..Them reattach firmly....
