My pcv valve is under the valve cover is there any way of cleaning it without removing the cover? I'm getting an occasional puff of smoke at start up and ford said its probably pcv and to pull the cover off and clean it but it looks like a pain to get off.
I have the same problem with my 2010 and it has done it since new. It only has 20k on it now.seems to do it if i start it pull it out of the garage and than go back to it later and then you get the puff.I don't like it but also don't think much of it either!!
This has been mentioned quite a few times in prior years' discussions, particularly how the puff occurs after moving the truck on the driveway. For these motors, its normal.
It may be normal but my truck just started it. It has 73000 miles and I feel that cleaning or changing the pcv would help and so did the mechanic at ford. If it had been doing it the whole time I wouldn't be as concerned. I was just wondering if there was a way to clean the pcv without having to pull the valve cover.
I was going through some old threads and found mention of what you found. Another guy had the dealer tell him he had to buy the entire valve cover assembly to replace the PCV valve.(On his #v V10) The only pcv parts I found listed for the PCV on the Motorcraft site were the hoses that are connected to the valve. It sounds like a completely stupid thing to do to me but I would not be surprised if Ford did it.
