DO NOT USE "USED MOTOR OIL" if you need to, run clean stuff thru it, I heard thru the grape vine that a biodiesel mix will get stuff out pretty quick...

Read this as to why you dont use used oil:

Not sure how that makes me not want to use waste motor oil (WMO).

Personally, I have run it in my old IDI's but I wouldn't think of using that in my 6.0

Honestly if you wanna get rid of the red color just run that tank dry dump 5 gal of used oil in the tank top off with green diesel and you'll be fine. Just make sure it's clean used oil. Good luck.
I was refering to this comment, I wouldnt do it either Thad, even if it was "clean used oil" I think my **** would pass thru better, without screwing things up than used motor oil... Just my .02

For the record (just in case anyone was wondering) there is an excellent alternative fuels sub forum here on FTE. Several very smart guys when it comes to WVO, SVO, WMO and B100. With that said, you'll never find WMO in my fuel tank...in any mixed ratio. At $200+ a piece and as picky as they are...the injectors are too sensitive in the 6.0L to risk microscopic metal fragments in the fuel. No matter how many passes through a 1 micron fuel filter...you'll never get the microscopic stuff out. Don't get me wrong, diesel is over priced and biodiesel holds allot of promise. But not used oils (motor, gear, ATF or hydraulic) in my truck. I'm aiming for 300k before the first overhaul.

Just run the tank down below 1/4 several good times and fill up with regular diesel. After about 5 tanks the red tint should be gone...or at least it was for me on that KW.

Red filters only mean you have run the off road diesel in the past. If you get checked they are concerned with what you are running now. They are smart enough to tell the difference.

I agree, and unless your spending allot of time at the sale barn...or using your truck commercially I seriously doubt your going to get checked before you have a chance to burn that dye out. I'm not exactly sure who you'd need to contact if the dye is bothering you (maybe your local state police HQ would know?)...but you could get a hold of your state's tax commission and explain how you screwed up and would like to pay the difference in tax to clear your mind. With only a 30-50 gallon tank (depending on what you've got under the bed...$10-$15 in tax?) I'm willing to bet it would cost more to mail the check than what they'd collect.

Not to undermine your theory but my truck has 288,000 on it now I've run waste engine oil/atf every oil change for the last 150k or so. I've only replaced 2 injectors and that was before I started running oil. Just thought I'd share my experience. I run 100% FILTERED waste oil in my 94 and it loves it. The powerstrokes actually do well with it because the oil is actually heated up from running through the heads before hitting the injector which lowers the viscosity. I'm not advocating doing this and honestly I've never run more than 5-6 gal per full tank in my 6.0. I just get slightly annoyed at the average armchair mechanic that spouts off an opinion as if it's a fact like he's blown 4 motors and 37 injectors in the process of knowing this info.
