Welcome to FTE. Like many new users, you put your post in the top thread--this is for new trucks. There are forums for '87s and for the 300.
Look for this to be relocated to the 300 forums down the page.
To answer your question, you may be able to match it up as the bell pattern is the same. However, if you think you have problems now, wait till you try to make that combo work.
What is wrong with your motor? It will be far cheaper and easier to repair the existing engine than to make the 3.8 work in the truck.
well i rebuilt the top end and i didnt do the bottom end and now im getting oil in my number 3 cyl and i just dont feel like going back in to the motor but im pretty sure thats what im gonna have to do and i real dont have any more funds to put into it and i got a stang with body damage but everything else is good thats why i was thing just drop in the motor and electrical and be done with it unless theres a easy way to fix the oil problem thanks for the advice
Making the 3.8 work in the truck will not be free.
You MIGHT be able to get away with a quick hone and re-ring job that will stop the oiling issue. You can do this "in frame" if you can get the pan off while the engine is still in the vehicle.
Of course, you might find a big groove in the cylinder wall or some other problem, but imo it would be worth the chance given your situation.
FWIW I'd part the Mustang out and sell that head gasket popping 3.8.
The 83 model came with a 3.8L V6. Pretty rare and it was carburated. Be rough finding a donor to get the frame mounts and such to mount the engine.
So rare, that there was only one paragraph in the owners manual that even mentioned it.
