The only complaint I have is when I hit the phone button and say call ... It usually calls someone completely different.
In my '10 Screw when I hit the voice button it says, "say a command" then I say "phone", the Sync systen then says, "phone, say a command" then I say "call ?????" from my phonebook.
Check your phone book and make sure the entries are stored properly. It also helps if you use first and last names in the phonebook and when calling.
In other words, if your brother's name is Robert Smith, don't store his name in your phone as Robert or Rob or Bob. Store it as Robert Smith. When making a call say his full name and the entry (home, work, cell).
I have the feedback option turned off, so Samantha doesn't reply to basic functions.
Voice button...
Me: "Phone"
Samantha: "Phone"
Me: "Call Robert Smith on cell."
Samantha: "Calling Robert Smith on cell."
Ford's quality rating took a big hit largely due to the bugs with the Sync system (along with My Ford Touch). I can not use Sync with the windows down, or even cracked for that matter. Even after intering some last names (as mentioned above) it still wont understand the most simple names (I.E.: Bill). If I say Call Jeff (and his last name) it will call Jets Pizza, and Jeffs full name sounds nothing like "Jets Pizza".
Another Issue Ive had is with both my phones, Blackberry and iPhone, is when I start my tuck it connects to Sync without me being promt, which is cool, but the MP3 player starts to play with out my knowledge and I have to manualy stop it or it will kill the battery. I know someone who has Sync and a different phone and it does the same thing. I called both phone techs support teams and both are unaware of the issue and had no explaination.
I want my phone to automatically connect but not to start the MP3 player. I can turn bluetooth off, but then why even have Sync? I want it ready to roll when I want it to.
Referring to your first comment soundwave, I read the same thing and it's very unfortunate. I'm a software engineer and I can attest to the fact that it's not possible to please everyone with any software. Especially with such a large userbase.
I am very pleased with Sync. I haven't had any issues with the voice recognition yet.
It's especially tough when your software interfaces with other devices. I'm fairly certain that it's not Sync initiating the MP3 playback upon connecting, but rather the phone.

1. Do you have the stock mirror mounted microphone? I had mine replaced under TSB 09-13-5 (the replacement is headliner mounted). It does work with the driver's window down (less than 1/2 way and at a reasonable speed).
2. It is likely an issue with your phone and probably will not be fixed until you change phones. For my HTC Touch Pro 2 I have the ability to restrict the BT connection to hands-free only (disabling BT music streaming). If can't do that on your phone have you considered using a USB flash drive for all yor music?

1) I asked one time at the dealer if there was a recall involving the Sync microphone and he said it didn't apply to me. So IDK?
2) I dont want to use a flash drive because if I disable bluetooth then I cant still make calls through Sync (with the windows up, of course) or when I actually WANT to use the music player through Sync. Odd thing is it doesnt do it all the time. Only about 75% of the time I will glance at my phone and the MP3 player will be running and the other 25% of the time it wont play unless I prompt it to. And like I said this was an issue with a few different phones not just me with mine.
A week later and so far no issues. I can say I really like having hands free calling. I am still learning a lot about my new truck and I like what I have a lot.

2. I will assume you have checked to see if you can set up your phone's BT to limit it to hands-free (and you can't).
If you use a flash drive and remove the music from your phone (move the files from the phone to the flash drive), there won't be any music for it to stream (plus the USB connection will take priority). You can also do the USB2 mod and keep the flash drive in your glove box or center console.
