Help with 79 F100 StepSide
Anyway, my Dad is the original owner of a 1979 F100 2wd StepSide. It has the 300 and the 3 on the tree transmission.
The 300 is shot in the truck, so we are trying to figure out what might be the best solution to fix it with. The block is almost gone so it would take quite a bit to fix the 300 so I was wondering what a good swap might be.
I have no idea what engine that the original tranny would hold, or if putting a whole new engine/tranny setup would be the way to go. I'm trying to talk him into a crate engine
He's retired so its more of a 'play' truck, so mpg,etc doesn't really matter.I guess a good way to put it is if you had the option of any reasonable engine/tranny swap, what would be the least painful to do?
Sorry for the long post,
Thanks,
Derek
Rebuild the longblock if possible or find a suitable donor. Fit an Offenhauser intake (PN 6019DP), a 500-600 cfm carb, a mild cam, and a Clifford Performance header. It'd make for a fun rig.
If ya wanna dare to be different, Clifford offers a dual Weber intake manifold. Even more different?.. Look into Howell EFI. Wanna experiment? Do a conversion or dual fuel ... Propane Conversion Kits
Personally, I'd rethink the 3 on the tree and look into a T5 swap from Modern Driveline (Inline-6 Transmission options using a TREMEC T5)
