Totally confused on tire choice

I have Cont's on my truck 275-70-18 and I wanted to go to a better tire before winter and hunting season. I have search and I am more confused now than when I started? I thought I had it figured out Goodyear Duratrac's, they have the look I want and traction I am looking for (snow, off-road, grass hillsides, & wet roads. The reviews on this tire are all over the place from worn out at 10K to lots of tread left at 40K, terrible handling, soft sidewalls, tire puncture easily. On Tire Rack I read the reviews for only 3/4 and 1 ton trucks, some people love them and other hate them. Then I went to the Goodyear site and they list the Duratrac as "does not fit your vehicle". I thought about Silent Armor but the reviews are mostly bad for these also. I want to stay with the same size 33.4" so it fits in the garage. I know this topic has been beat to death, but every tire I have researched has bad and good reviews. Thanks for any help I can get.

A few months ago I install Duratracs on my old powerwagon. They offer outstanding traction. I cannot comment on milage life, because I have very few miles on them. I had a co worker with them on a F150 and he seemed to have good luck with them, however he did say they were a little noisy on the highway. Tomorrow I am putting new tires on my 06 350 and I went with Cooper AT3's in 275-70-18 also. I have the cooper ATR's on my 1999 F250 and have been very happy with them, so I thought I would try the tire that replaced them, the AT3. If you need something a little more aggressive try the ST Maxx.

I would go with Falken Rocky Mountains. You will have to adjust the size a bit, but overall you will get excellent off road performance and save money. They have 3-ply sidewalls like the BFGs, along with an aggressive tread that has a 50K warranty. Look into those. They are exclusive to Discount Tire/America's Tire.

Thanks for the reply's, I looked into the tires that were recommended. I headed out to look at tires, I went to two shops explained what I was looking for and they both recommended Nitto Terra Grapplers. I searched for info and reviews on the Nitto's and I did not find any bad reviews? NTB gave me the best price of $1000 mounted and installed with lifetime balance, rotation, and some type of road hazard assistance. This was for the 275-70-18 or the 295-70-18's. The 295's are 34.4" tall only 1" taller than the Cont's I have now, and everyone that has them says no clearance problems with stock trucks. What do you guys think?

I am sold on Coopers myself. I am running the STT's. They have others as well though.

Google these, I'd pick any of them before Terra Grapplers:
Cooper SSTs
Michelin LTX AS2s
ProComp Xtreme A/Ts
ProComp A/Ts
Nitto Trail Grapplers
Goodyear MT/R Kevlar

I'd even look at some of the less aggressive tires like Michelin LTX MS2s, BGF KOs, Goodyear SilentArmour ProGrades, or even Generals. I love the Trail Grapplers I have, but the Terras have never done it for me. Seems like they would do a lot of things ok, just not as good as a lot of other options.

wierd. I had the Silent Armours in a 265/70/17...handled the power from my Hemi without any issues. Went offroading in Lava Rocks with them. Excellent traction, no damage. I would recommend them to anybody without any hesitation. Search here on FTE and you'll see alot of guys like the Silent Armour.

Also check out the Firestone Destination A/T. I put that on my Expedition last month. Very nice ride, great traction. There is a reason they are the #1 tire for A/T tires. I would buy again

I had Goodyear Silent Armors on my '05 when I traded it. They had 13k on them and looked new. They were probably the best tires I've ever used in the snow and rain. Plus they were almost as quiet as the Continentals they replaced.
