Do you think it would be of any benefit to the transmission to add a larger tranny cooler? I would think that any upgrade in cooling would be beneficial. i don't currently have a tranny temp gauge so i don't know what it is running.
I have the factory cooler on the truck. it seems to have a bunch of grease and grime on the fittings. I don't know if it is leaking or not.
I have read about some of the upper end coolers. i found a complete kit today at carquest that was good up to 10,000lb's. they wanted $80 for it. the cooler was all alluminum.
Yeah. It's REAL important. Heck, not only do I have an auxiliary tranny cooler, I have a Moroso extra-deep aluminum finned tranny oil pan. I only pull a 23 foot travel trailer with it too.
Well, Moroso's part number is 42060. Thinkin' I bought mine thru Amazon last year. http://www.amazon.com/Moroso-42060-T.../dp/B001GC6N8E
Just looked, they seem to be out of stock right now, but I'm sure an internet or E-bay search might find one.

the E40D keeps pretty cool with its locking converter.
if your not sure if you need a larger external cooler or not,the first thing you should do is install a trans temp gauge.
you want 175 degrees ideally, but running the trans below 150 is no good either.
i had to install a 180 degree t-stat for my external cooler because temps where too low.
Boiling point of water is 212 F or 100 C. Ideally, tranny temp of 160 to 175 degrees F is ideal, which is where the oil is very warm to the touch, but sure won't raise a blister. Heck, in Japan they like baths at 122 to 130 F for humans. It doesn't take much movement of the vehicle to bring it up to that much temperature.
A few years ago, I spun a rear bearing in my C-6, towing a decent sized trailer with my trencher, less than 10,000 lbs. It was directly related to the tranny temp breaking down the tranny oil. After that, I want just as much cooling reserve as I can get.
B & M puts out a deeper cast oil pan for the tranny too, that I actually like better than m ine. Helped someone put one on their car, with a C-6 tranny. I see no reason it wouldn't fit. It has a oil drain plug AND a plug for a tranny temp gauge built in. Cast Aluminum Deep Pans - Ford - C-6 also fits trucks (adds 2 qt.)
Like FORDF250HDXLTsaid, it's a real good idea to install a thermostat to control temperatures. I will install mine close to the transmission to save heat during warmup. Right after my aux filter.

not sure when it is available. how about the price? how much did you buy this? is it the same price?
Bought it last year. Same price. But, like I said earlier, I put a B & S on a buddies old C-6. If I had a choice, I would have bought the B & S, but, I didn't have the option at the time. The B & S has a drain plug AND a plug for a temp gauge already installed. And B & S seems to be about 50 bucks cheaper.
