I have 87' 6.9 with 220K miles, which the oil sender recently went bad. I purchased a mechanical gauage and installed to the engine. Now I know what psi I have.
Cold i have 20psi @ idle and 40psi @speed. Warm i have 12psi @ idle and 37 @ speed. Are these numbers OK?? Should i change the oil pump?? Can it be performed while the engine is still in the truck?
Or isa the psi fine for the age of the truck. Someone suggested that I need to chenge the bearings.
Rodehog, where is this sending unit located? I see something that looks like that in the back of the block on top. I have a 1993 pre Powerstroke that seems to be healthy but the electric oil pressure gauge is erratic about the oil pressure. Did you remove the old sending unit and "T" into that connection with tubing that you ran inside to a gauge?
