I've recently purchased an '06 sd 6.0 ps. When it shifts into overdrive it cuts out and seems as though its running out of fuel. I've been told to drain the excess water out of the hfcm, I did so with no results, the truck still cuts out. Any idea what the problem is?
Take some time to read the tech folder at the beginning of the 6.0 forum. It has answers to a LOT of problems and lots of repair procedures that you can do yourself before/instead of taking it to a dealership. We have some VERY GOOD Ford Master tech's that frequent this forum willing to give you advice at their own expense.
1). Get your truck code scanned. Many autoparts stores can/will do this for FREE. Ask for the SPECIFIC codes and post them here for the most accurate help.
2). Post as much specific information about your truck and it's maintenance history as you can; mileage, filter and brand, oil and brand. These are all very important.
It's probably NOT the fuel pump although it's possible. If you haven't done so or don't know it's maintenance history I urge you to change the fuel filters ASAP using Racor, Motorcraft, or IH fuel filters. You can purchase OEM filters from dieselfiltersonline.com for a greatly reduced price than what you'll get them from a dealership.
