it seems that in every u-pull-it lot in town that has aerostars there isnt one that has a working clockspring for a 93 aerostar.
i would like to have my horn, cruise, and airbags back, but im too cheap/broke to pay retail for a new clockspring.
i have found 2 clocksprings so far, but they looked quite well mangled. i have noticed that there are tons of mercury sables and tauruses in these lots and they have almost identical steering wheels, but when i finally pulled a steering wheel off one that looked identical to my van's wheel, there was one plug that would fit, and one that wouldnt.
can anyone tell me if a clockspring from another vehicle will fit my van.
its a 93 extended with a 4.0 if that makes any difference.
Have you tried clocksprings from the Aerostar's closest relatives - Ranger and Explorer? I don't know for sure that they'll fit, but I do know that there are a lot of similarities.
I've noticed the same thing. I think pickups (especially 4WD) and SUV's worth more so the full service yards ****** them up and the leftovers go to the u pull it yards.
I may be off the reservation, as I've never messed with a clock spring, but something I read recently was referring to the older models (92,93) problems arising from the connection wire in the clock spring mechanism being too short and breaking. Would it be possible to fix this by adding a length of splice to the mechanism?
