The past few weeks me and a buddy of mine have been working on his 79 bronco. It had been sitting in his woods since 2002 and hadnt ran since. We drug it out and changed the oil in it poured a little gas in the carb and the thing fired up first try.
That is awesome. Post a pic, we'll help you identify it!
I will, im going back to his house tomorrow to work on it ill get a pic then. All we know is that it came out of an old merc. I think it is at least a 400 and its definitely a big block
You still need to replace all the rubber and the fluids, to keep the truck happy, even if it starts. It's great when an engine works just like that
I forgot to mention the other fluids, we flushed the radiator but we havent drained the transmission yet and the chunk is gone out of the rear so there isnt any gear oil there and when we do the rear end swap we are gonna drain the front. and we are in the process of replacing the fuel lines and hoses
My PO told me I the truck had Lockers in front and rear.
Pop the starter off and look at the Casting numbers!!!!
Is it just on the starter like on the side?
and by far the funniest part of this whole project is that the original motor used to be at his grandparents and is apparently missing/stolen/sold for scrap. Only person ive ever met that has lost a motor
Thats terrible to lose a motor. The casting numbers are on the block, right where the body of the starter sits. You might be able to see them without removing the starter, but its only 2 bolts and odds are there is dirt/grime buildup right there.

Ill look the next time i go over there. The motor was actually good it just needed to be rebuilt
