Check engine EGR problem and passing emissions
Hello:
Good news for me. I passed my fourth emissions test. The other three were failures. Reason? The EGR valve was giving off a check engine error.
Word to the wise: if you know this is the problem with your car, get it fixed before having the emissions people test it. Even CRC Guaranteed To Pass won't solve the problem if the EGR valve is not able to recirculate the combustion gases. My third reading for the NOx test was 1,700 parts per million; my fourth was 259 parts per million. I needed 859 or less to pass. Whoopee!
If you want to know how to troubleshoot EGR problems, read my posts on it. Yesterday, I finally found the cracked hose at the V8 can that was causing me to have no vacuum back to the valve. Believe it or not, even strong duct tape will fix it. But with that hole there, or a crack, it will not pass the NOx emissions end of the test.
