I pulled the distributor without marking it. have I condemned my truck to a sparkless future..?
Here is the real question... It looks like I can get a good price on a Mallory Unilite Distributor (Part # 3755301), but I am not sure if it will work with my FE 390. The Distributor I have right now is a Motorcraft (part #D3TF 12127 HA) with (I believe) a vacuum advance. I would like to replace my whole ignition system starting with this Mallory distributor. Should I get it?
mallory is a good product .you still need to set it up to your motor ,you won't see any difference without tuning to your weight /tranny /driving style..more bling with the mallory .and if I could afford one ..I'd get it too!!
Turn the motor over until you get to TDC for cylinder #1 on the compression stroke.
Plop in the distributor, and wherever the rotor winds up, put the spark plug wire in the cap for cylinder #1. Work your way counterclockwise putting spark plug wires into the cap using the firing order.
While you COULD do it the "right" way, and point it where #1 is "supposed" to go (some distributor caps actually have a "1" on the post for cylinder #1), it really doesn't matter.
As long as you have enough movement of the distributor to time it right, and the wires are long enough to reach, it's not a big deal.
