Speedometer
You remove the wiper **** (insert a bent paper clip into the bottom of the back of the **** and pop loose a little clip inside it),
The headlight **** (reach under the dash and feel for a push-button on the headlight switch; press it and pull the **** and shaft out of the switch)
Remove the plastic bezel around the gauges,
Then undo the four screws holding the gauge cluster in. Two up top near the turn signal bulb sockets, two in plain sight at the bottom of the cluster.
You can then -gently- pull the cluster out enough to press on the flat area on the end of the cable while pulling it out of the gauge. You may have to disconnect the big wiring connector on the right-hand side of the cluster if you don't have enough room to get to the speedo cable. It's a tight fit, lol.
If you can't get the cluster out enough to disconnect the cable, you can disconnect it from the transmission first, feed yourself some slack, and that will give you enough room to pull the cluster out more and disconnect the cable from the gauge.
Seems like a lot of work at first, but I had the cluster in my truck in and out so many times when I upgraded to a tach-equipped cluster, I can do it in my sleep now. lol. It becomes easy once you get the hang of it lol
