Hello all. I have a 77 F150 that I am currently reviving with hopes of restoring a little later down the road. One issue I noticed the other day was that the oil pan sits on the chassis (literally). The motor is a 460 which came with the truck and has a front sump pan from what I've read would be correct given that it's 2WD. Can anybody speak to this issue, I've thought about it just being worn motor mounts but I've not seen a motor sit so low it touches the frame. Any input is appreciated.
I could be wrong on this but my limited knowledge says that the 460 is not the original motor. I believe that the biggest motor available in 77 pickups was the 400. but I could be wrong in that believe... corrections anybody?
arrright.. I'll take a shot at this. Mind you I don't have a 460 so this is a total brainstorm session. I concur with the evaluation that it should not be resting on the crossmember. In my mind, here are some possible causes:
-Bent crossmember (dang, Bo and Luke been driving yer rig?)
-Not an original or correct oil pan (deeper!)
-Motor mounts are swapped side to side or installed inverted - thereby creating a vertical offset
-Not the correct motor mounts for yer rig with a 460.
I say whip out your tape measure and write down some critical dimensions. Then head to the JY to find a 2WD with a 460 and compare.
