Talking Bad instruments

Hey all! I have what I think is a bad compass/temp guage in my over head. when I got the vehicle it would sometimes go out, but being a man,
I would give it a whack, and it would work again............not now though.
anybody have a cheap fix?
Thanks
CJ

Mine went out too earlier this year. I work in electronics. I found a chip resistor that had lifted off the circuit board on one end. High current flow through the resistor caused the problem. It was a 51 ohm, 1 watt resistor. Could not find a replacement part easily, but did have some 480 ohm 1 watt resistors handy. I stacked four of them on top of each other and soldered them in. The four resistors in parallel give a total resistance very close to the original resistor but the four of them stacked give a wattage rating of 4 watts instead of 1 watt. this fixed the problem and it has been working since.

This may help you visualize what KingRanchMan02 is talking about....I think he is spot on with the diagnosis...Seems to be fairly common...Be extremely gentle when taking things apart, I have read where guys actually find the resistor after it had fallen off the board....
