The only people who have the actual figures of failures is Ford. If poor quality fuel caused the destruction of two pumps among the small number of owners who post here, then it's logical to assume that there are many more incidents which we are not aware of.
There is no way there is just 2. There is at least 2 on this site.
I had this on my list of things to do when Rick's mess started and this thread is a good reminder to talk with my insurance agent about such repairs.
I've never asked him a question related to bad fuel for example.
You guys have me nervous now so I checked with my insurance company (Amica). I am covered minus deductible.
Good to hear, I have the same company. They have done good by me in the past: Had a truck stolen and they paid top retail on it; also had a new 2010 F150 less than a month old get totaled by a drunk driver, they paid full sales contract on it with no depreciation.

Yeah, I have been very impressed with Amica. Their customer service is outstanding. Glad to hear you have had a good experience with them as well.
One thing no one mentioned is if your insurance covers a $10,000 repair on this HPOP replacement, does it show up on a vehicle history report such as Carfax?
If you have a dealer repair your truck it will be documented on the OASIS file associated with your VIN. If you use an independent repair shop, then no documentation. Regarding insurance, if your VIN is attached to the filed claim it would depend on how comprehensive a search that car fax would do.

Just heard back from my Allstate Agent. They will cover fuel system damage caused by bad fuel (water, sugar,& anything else that could be introduced through the tank filler.
Comprehensive, $100 deductable.
I had no idea insurance companies would pay for mechanical repairs....I wonder if they do this up in Canada also....??

insurance fraud. sweet
way to brag about it on the internet too. nice touch!
USAA said no coverage, unless the failed pump caused a collision, then they would pay? Guess when my truck shuts down, I'll have to assume it's the HPFP and crash it.......NOT..
I've used additive in every tank thus far, picked up the Motorcraft stuff today, keeping the receipts from all motor craft cetane booster and all fuel receipts, the Motorcraft is actually about the same price as Diesel Kleen, so it's a no brainer. I'd be disappointed if something was denied after running additive in every tank, well more than disappointed, something would get wrecked.
I actually think alot of people are blowing this out of proportion. Yes it really stinks that Rick got the run around and the camshaft out of the ordeal, but seriously do you see piles of 6.7s sitting outside the dealers doors lined up for HPFP replacements? I think everyone would have to answer no to that one...
